Soft Robotic Face Mask for Respiratory Support

This project seeks to develop a self-sealing soft robotic face mask for respiratory support of patients with breathing difficulties. Standard-of-care face masks require continuous application of force and healthcare provider attention in order to maintain position over the nose/mouth and avoid large leaks. Respiratory support for patients consequently requires dedicated personnel, which is challenging in austere or emergency situations. Our proposed mask self-seals to the patient’s face without any provider intervention, which frees personnel to attend to other tasks.
