Schemes for Isolating Agricultural Residues as Natural Fibers and Reactive Intermediates

We have been organizing under the banner of the MRSEC- Development program to identify collaboration potential to extract natural fibers and other reactive intermediates using ionic liquids (ILs). There are plenty of directions to go on this overall project scope including synthesis, agricultural residual harvest collection and characterization, modeling to resolve the energetics of IL interactions with cellulose and lignin, testing, characterization, and functional evaluation of fiber mats both as structural reinforcements and dampers. While the graphic describes a link to corn production, we are agnostic about the source and are intrigued about industrial hemp production and plant residues from that.

Funding

Funding: $30K (2022)
Goal: It would be a success if the team could develop both a review paper, perhaps some industrial funding prospects, and preliminary data to support the enterprise. We can also solicit potential sponsors to help support this using travel support through START.
Token Investors: Brian Love, Alan Taub
